Hart-Headed

This is a website that I have created, to talk about the things that interest me: Literature, religion, history and politics, genealogy, and travel..
About the title of this site: It sounds like "hard-headed," I know. And, at the age of nearly 60, I probably am somewhat hard-headed. But I chose the title, more because I value both "head" and "heart" (and my name is, after all, HART). In all that I do and say and think, I want both intellect and passion to play a part.
In regard to literature, I am in love with words. That's why I became an English teacher nearly 40 years ago. I love the way they sound. I love the history from which they've grown. I love the way they feel in my mouth as I say them. (Weird. Yes, I know.) More than anything else, I love Shakespeare. But there are a dozen other writers, old and new, that run a close second. In recent years, I've developed a new interest in reading and teaching Irish literature, a beautiful, poetic, but often "keening" literature.
In regard to religion, I am a Christian, of the Protestant sort and probably of the more Conservative sort. My faith has to make sense to me, both in my head and in my heart. It is my goal to fall in love with Jesus.
In regard to politics, I am also of the more Conservative sort, registered Republican, but not unwilling to vote Democrat, if the candidate convinces me--again, both head and heart.
In regard to genealogy, I am writing a book about one line of my family, The Descendants of Owen Dogharty of Donegal. So far, I have the book finished from 1656 to 1800. It requires many trips to Richmond, Virginia; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Frankfort, Kentucky, where I can dig through all those archival records.
It even requires traveling to Ireland, which has been my destination of choice for the last ten years.
